A6-E Intruder #157027 wore this commemorative 1960s era Gull Gray and White paint scheme in 1997 for the squadron's disestablishment. VA-75 Sunday Punchers had the honor of being both the first, and the last, operational A-6 squadron, flying the Intruder for a total of 34 years.
US Navy Bombing Squadron 18 (VB-18) Sunday Punchers was established on July 20th, 1943 flying the SBD Duantless and later the SB2C Helldiver. The squadron progressed through the F4U Corsair and AD-1 Skyraider and was redesignated VA-7A in 1946; VA-74 in 1948 and finally VA-75 in 1950. In September of 1963, the Sunday Punchers became the first squadron to operate the then new A-6A Intruder. The squadron continued with the Intruder, upgrading to the A-6E variant in 1973. VA-75 deployed on the USS Enterprise in 1996 and flew the last Intruder operations from an aircraft carrier. The squadron was finally disestablished at NAS Oceana on February 28th, 1997.
