VFA-192 began as VF-153 “Fightin’ Kangaroos” on March 16, 1945. In November 1946 they were re-designated VF-15A “Black Knights” followed with a change to VF-151 in 1948,VF-192 in 1950 as the Golden Dragons, VA-192 in 1956 and finally VFA-192 on January 10, 1986. VFA-192 is often referred to as the “World Famous Golden Dragons” because they flew their F9F Panthers during the making of the movie “The Bridges at Toko-Ri”.

In 1986 VFA-192 moved from NAS Lemoore, California to NAF Atsugi, Japan and began to fly the F-18C in 1991. In December 2009 VFA-192 returned to NAS Lemoore as home.
